Last updated on February 12th, 2023 at 09:58 am

Find the best pellet grill for your grilling needs at Lowe’s. Let’s take a look at the full lineup of pellet grills you will find at Lowes. This guide looks at the pros and cons of popular pellet grills, so you can decide if they are right for you.

What Brands Of Pellet Grills Will You Find At Lowes?

As people learn about pellet grills, they quickly realize that there are a number of brands offering a variety of models. So how are they different? And how do you know which pellet grill is right for you? With more options than ever, shopping for a pellet grill can be confusing. In a market filled with grills that claim similar capabilities, it can be difficult to discern what separates one from another.

Lowes has the big brand names in pellet grills:

  • Pit Boss
  • Z Grills
  • Camp Chef
  • Weber Grills
  • Oklahoma Joe’s
  • Asmoke Pellet Grills

You will also find a few other brands online or specific to your nearby Lowes location. However, if you are looking for the biggest brand in pellet grills, Traeger, you will have to go to Home Depot as Treager grills are not available at Lowes stores.

What’s the Best Pellet Grill At Lowes?

When you’re talking about Lowe’s pellet grills, everyone always wants to know which one is the best. While that might seem like a fairly straight forward question, there is no simple answer. What I can tell you is what is selling today at Lowes. I visit a Lowe’s store at least once a week and during the summer I’m probably in their store 3-4 times a week checking out the grills and accessories. And the patio furniture is pretty good too!

So I’ve seen all the pellet grills Lowes has to offer. Is the best Lowe’s pellet grill the most popular one made by the best-known brand? Is it the most expensive one with the most advanced features and all the bells and whistles? Or is it the one that offers the best combination of price and performance? Or maybe it’s the one that simply fits your budget.

Really, the answer depends on you. The question shouldn’t be what’s the best pellet grill, but what’s the best pellet grill for you?

Other guides will offer a list of the best pellet grills. However, your best resource isn’t a list, but the knowledge that you gain by reading an researching and actually talking to someone who knows about grills and smokers. This will help you know what you’re looking at and ensure you get a pellet grill you’ll be happy with.

First of all, what Is a Pellet Grill?

Part of my job is to educate as best I can about grills. So I want to talk basics before I get in to specifics. Now don’t get confused when talking about pellet grills and pellet smokers. Yes, there are some differences, but for the most part you can grill and smoke from the same unit as long as its a pellet grill. If you just want a pellet smoker, you really won’t be able to use it as a grill.

They’re fueled with wood pellets made of compressed hardwood sawdust, which allows them to heat quickly, burn hot and create clean smoke. Pellet grills are very user-friendly and provide consistent, even cooking for a variety of your favorite dishes. A pellet grill is not made to sear steaks, but is perfect for all your low and slow smoking and grilling needs.

The grilling world favors big fires, high temps and a sizzling steak. But a pellet grill really has slowly grown a cult following and it’s my preferred way to prepare grill favorites like ribs. It’s one of the most hands-off barbecuing experiences you will ever have.

For those new to pellet grills, the grill’s heat comes from burning hardwood pellets made from sawdust. These pellets are stored in a hopper attached to the grill. An auger adds a steady stream of pellets to a small firepot, where they’re ignited and begin to burn. Because these grills use an auger, you will need electricity to use your pellet grill. The heat is indirect which means the flame is shielded by a diffuser and works like a convection oven.

To use a pellet grill or pellet smoker grill, pour the pellets into the hopper and start the auger. An electric motor powers an auger that moves the pellets from the hopper to the firebox. An ignition device lights the pellets, creating heat that starts to cook the food in the cooking chamber. Intake fans bring in air to further feed the fire. The fans also circulate heat and smoke inside the cooking area, creating a convection cooking environment.

The Secret Is In The Wood Pellets

Before we get to specific pellet grills, let talk about the pellets. The wood pellets provide the fuel for cooking, but the grill requires electricity to power the auger, controller and fan. Pellet grills and smokers offer many of the same benefits and features as charcoal smoking or gas grilling. The crucial difference is that they don’t use lump charcoal or propane gas. Pellet cookers use wood pellets to get their beautiful and unique aromas and flavors. Using an automatic feed and auger to feed the firebox, they’re easy to control and use to achieve delicious barbecue flavors.

Most wood pellet grills will have a digital controller that regulates the delivery of the pellets to the firebox to keep the grill at the designated temperature, usually between 180 and 300 degrees. This controller gives you precise control of the cooking environment similar to that of an oven. So you can cook slow at a low temperature or a little more quickly by increasing the heat. Most pellet grills include a meat probe that monitors the temperature of the meat you’re cooking and connects to the temperature control system.

Remember with a pellet grills it’s low and slow BBQ. You won’t be searing steaks on a pellet grill. No more sizzling burgers and searing steaks but you will get unbelievably taste and smoky flavor. All of this wrapped up in a neat little BBQ package that can be controlled almost entirely by your smartphone if you buy a Wifi enabled model.

So that’s what pellet grilles are, but why use them? If you have only used charcoal or gas grills, get ready for the kid who is going to be a contender. In my opinion pellet grills are the easiest and least time consuming grill option I’ve seen to get a fantastic flavorful result!

Here’s everything you need to know about Lowes pellet grills. By going through this guide, you can find out about the build quality, features, and performance.

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get started!

  • Pulled Pork. Smoke it low, smoke it slow. Perfect pulled pork is worth the wait, and this BBQ meat can be served any way you like.
  • Smoked Pork Tenderloin. Marinate a tenderloin in a sweet honey and thyme mixture, then smoke to perfection over our favorite applewood pellets.

Don’t Forget The Hardwood Pellets

No matter what you’re cooking on your wood pellet grill, there’s a hardwood flavor for it. To make your recipe stand out, we have prepared this wood pellet flavor guide so that you can have an understanding of which pellets to use for certain food and flavor.

  • Signature blend includes maple, hickory and cherry woods that craft a sweet and smoky wood-fired flavor.
  • Alder pellets have a mild flavor with a hint of sweetness.
  • Apple pellets have a light, sweet, fruity smoke flavor that pairs especially well with pork and chicken.
  • Cherry has a mild flavor that gives food a subtle sweet and fruity flavor. It mixes well with other woods, like oak, pecan or hickory, to bring complexity to the flavor while maintaining the mild, fruity flavor.
  • Hickory provides a full-bodied smoky flavor, but it can make food taste bitter if oversmoked.
  • Maple adds a rich, maple smokiness layered with a hint of sweetness.
  • Mesquite gives a bold, almost spicy, smoky flavor to foods, and it can easily overpower food. Gives off a strong smokey tangy and spicy flavor to foods.
  • Oak adds a medium smoky flavor that pairs well with other woods. It is stronger than cherry but lighter than hickory smoke and is perfect for fish and vegetables.
  • Pecan imparts a nutty, spicy flavor. Beef and chicken taste great with Pecan smoke because of the balanced flavor.

While you can use these tips as a guide, it’s always a good idea to have plenty of pellets on hand so you don’t risk running out while you’re cooking. Pellets for pellet grills and smokers come in a variety of wood types, including blends of different woods which add unique flavors to food. Pellets enhance the flavors of a variety of foods, from fall-off-the-bone ribs to sweet and crunchy corn on the cob.

Benefits Of A Wood Fired Hardwood Pellet Grill

Do you need more benefits for getting a Lowes pellet grill? How about better temperature control and an easy start-up process. If flavor matters to you, then that’s the first reason to get the original wood pellet grill. Gas and charcoal can’t hold a candle to pure hardwood taste, and both come up short to a pellet grill when it comes to enhancing the flavor of your food.

A good pellet grill offers you the ability to easily control your cooking temperatures without the need to fuss with charcoal or refill propane tanks. Pellet burners create very little ash so you don’t have as much cleanup as you will with charcoal and they add more flavor than gas grills.

We Love The Pit Boss 850

We love using our Pit Boss Pro 850 grill. It’s pricier than some other grills, but all of the Pit Boss models are top of the line. We think that buying a good pellet grill is a great investment. With that said, there other brands out there at varying price points. You should check out the reviews before buying any brand, especially if it is an inexpensive no name pellet grill. Most of the time, you are going to be better off buying a higher-priced option that is guaranteed to produce quality BBQ rather than trying to save a few hundred dollars on a cheap option.

Pit Boss offers consistency and convenience that no other cooking method approaches. If you’ve tried smoking on charcoal and found the experience frustrating or if you’ve always used a gas grill and are looking for more flavor, a pellet grill is the way to go.

But the best part is how easy it is to create great tasting meals with this grill. Just fill the hopper, turn on the grill, set your desired temperature and put your food on the grill. From brisket to pork loin and smoked turkey to baby back ribs, you can master it all on a Pit Boss Pro Series 850 grill in no time..

Your possibilities are endless so it’s time to grill and chill.
