  • Advice – missing bottom vent control
    by /u/DankRoughly on July 20, 2024 at 8:28 pm

Bought a secondhand 22″ kettle and the bottom vent / ash cleaner is completely missing. Wide open bottom vents. I have the replacement parts on order but planning to do ribs tomorrow and make the best of it. Will it be possible to control the heat enough to go low and slow with only a top vent? Any advice? Other option would be to throw them in the slow cooker, but that would be sad. submitted by /u/DankRoughly [link] [comments]

  • Vent handle

Installed this little mod today on the kettle. Not sure if the electrical tape was a good idea but couldn’t find a cabinet knob that would fit the bolt I bought (1/4 inch). I found myself struggling to operate the vent and accidentally burned myself once. Hopefully this makes it easier and it only cost $3 submitted by /u/Jeep_Boat_BBQ [link] [comments]

  • Question about Jumbo Joe lid vs. Standard WK lid (22″)
    by /u/Spearso on July 20, 2024 at 6:46 pm

I have a 22″ kettle that is about 25 years old. It’s still in excellent shape with the exception of the lid. The lid is just beat up and has a few dents and rust spots on it, and a thermometer hole I drilled years ago before I understood that a lid thermometer is reasonably useless. The old lid doesn’t have the heat guard either, which would be nice when I use the vortex. Everything else is practically mint after a recent deep clean. But the lid is pretty trashed. I looked at replacement lids and they are around $140-160 depending on the source, plus additional $20-$30 cost for a handle and […]
